For nearly three decades I have been running trails. Starting as a kid gallivanting over hill and dale, into my high school and collegiate years, and throughout my adult life, I have run and raced through the woods, fording creeks, glissading snow fields, skipping over roots, dodging rocks, blasting along sandy washes, bushing against dew laden grass, enjoying every step. During this time I have learned many lessons about successful and enjoyable trail running and competing. Combine my mountain running experience with my formal track, cross-country, and road racing career, during which I was guided by some amazing coaches and mentors, and you have the ingredients of an awesome ultrarunning coach. Having successfully finished all of the ultramarathons I have entered, earning podium finishes in all but two, I enjoy working with interested athletes, ranging from first timers to experienced runners looking to take their running to the next level.
My coaching philosophy was shaped by the principles imparted upon me as an athlete at the University of Colorado while running under coach Mark Wetmore, as well as the lessons I learned as an assistant coach under former Ironman Hawaii runner-up, Joanne Ernst and my own experience running trails and racing ultramarathons. These principles, coupled with your experience and goals, will shape the design of your custom training plan. Using periodization and specification, I can help you reach new heights in your running. I specialize in ultramarathon preparation, but I have coached athletes at distances ranging from 800 meters to 100 miles, on the track, road or trails.
